Editorial Services
Developmental Editing This is an overall edit of your work, a big-picture view that pays special attention to structure, flow, character development, tone, clarity, etc.
Copy or Line Editing This is a sentence-by-sentence review of basic mechanics: spelling, grammar, punctuation, and uniformity of style. I will also review word choice, phrasing, and dialogue. (Line editing involves more rewriting.)
Complete Editing Both options above
Proofreading This is the final look at your work immediately prior to printing or publishing. I will look for spelling errors, typos, layout problems, etc. No changes to content or style will be made.
Rates and Requirements
Rates are based on the type of editing you request and the amount of editing needed by your particular project.
Nonfiction is more time consuming (and therefore more expensive) than fiction editing.
Developmental Editing $0.03 - $0.049 per word
Copy and Line Editing $0.021 - $0.039 per word
Complete Edit $0.045 - $0.06 per word
Proofreading $0.018 - $0.028 per word

Hourly rate: If you prefer to pay by the hour, I charge $60/hr. This rate helps cover all the time I spend doing nonediting work--finding jobs, communicating with potential authors, etc.
Authors who prefer to have the editing done on a hard copy of their manuscript will be responsible for all shipping costs.
Half of the agreed-upon rate is due upon acceptance of the contract, with the balance due before delivery of the completed project. Hiring a talented editor is expensive, especially if your manuscript is lengthy. We can discuss a payment plan if necessary.
